La canne mvwala était l’un des attributs des mfumu (chefs). Symbole d’autorité, elle peut être comparée à un sceptre.
Elle présentait très souvent un pommeau anthropomorphe ou céphalomorphe sculpté dans le bois, l’ivoire ou, plus rarement, fondu dans le métal.
